Since SHOC what has drawn people to the series was the sense of place these guys were able to create. TheyвЂ™ve finally, properly, nailed the feeling of the world, of being one guy trying to scrape together a living in the strange and hostile Zone. ItвЂ™s a nice familiarity, but theyвЂ™ve also managed to get a few things right that were sometimes missing in the older games. As soon as youвЂ™re dropped into the game old skills and muscle memories come flooding back вЂ“ scavenging, fighting, trading, surviving. Well, in a way it has, the game is instantly familiar to veterans of the series. It was doing or trying to do things no other game even considered, and it was doing them well.ДЄfter 2 games I wouldвЂ™ve thought it wouldвЂ™ve gotten a little formulaic. Somewhere between stumbling across the controller for the first time and sitting around a campfire outside the Duty base just listening to some guitar riffs I realised that this thing was great. It took me 2 attempts at replays, the Oblivion Lost mod, and several hours into the game before it clicked.

I thought it was too buggy, it felt sluggish to control and the levels were too contrived and linear.

I never really вЂњgotвЂќ Stalker SHOC the first time I played it. Stalker: Call of Pripyat is the best Stalker game yet.ДЄfter Shadow of Chernobyl and Clear Sky I thought IвЂ™d pretty much burned out on all things to do with the Zone.
